Crew Members

Vessel size and distance of delivery dictate the number of crew required.  A minimum of one captain and one crew member is required for one or two day deliveries on vessels under 50 feet in length.  Longer trips require a third crew member to provide for three hour shift rotations. Crew requirements depend on the vessel our captains are licensed from 100 tons to 1600 tons.   Rates are as follows:

  • Captain: $250/day to $800/day 1600 tons

  • NASBLA Certified Crew: $150/day to $200/day

PROVISIONS

Provisions are billed at a rate of $20 to $40 per crew member per day.

TRAVEL

Every effort is made to keep travel expenses at a minimum using low cost flights, trains, mass transit and Uber as necessary.  One day of travel is required before and after delivery.  The travel day often includes activities as described below.

  • Day before departure: travel plus vessel inspection and checklist for captain (operational and safety inspection); provisioning and training for crew.

  • Day following arrival, includes vessel inspection, owner documentation by captain and cleaning for crew. Owner documentation includes trip details, cost breakdown but also information relating to condition and functionality of systems used during delivery.

FUEL

Fuel costs, of course, depend upon many factors.   Again, to the greatest extent possible, costs are kept to a minimum.  If you do not know the vessel well, here are some rough guidelines:

  • When sailing with motor running will typically add two knots to speed.

  • Typical vessel speed is on the order of six to eight knots (nm/hr)

MISCELLANEOUS

Owners are responsible for all reasonable expenses including mooring/docking fees, spare parts, towing if required, canal transits, etc.
